Harry Lauder, the great Scotch comedian, who is opening an Australian tour in. two or three weeks' tinio, recently had the honour of lunching with Mr. Lloyd r Georgo, the English Chancellor of tho Exchequer. Lauder's visit to the famous politician arose over his own endeavours to got legislation passed for tho protection of tho small ponies used in coal-mines. These ponies spend most of their lives in tho dark, toiling bravely and Tialf-fcd in tho service of man, and tho renowned comedian feels that Parliament should bp moved to afford them somo measuro of protection. Lauder has a considerable interest in the lot of tho pit ponies, for one of them in a coal-mine once saved the comedian from being cru3he3 by a fall of earth,
