All members-were present,with the exception of .-Mr. , J. • jEL..Richardson, .who was absent, by reason- of his being -required to sit, on the Public Service' Appeal Board.- ■ ' '• A resolution-by 'the ..Post and Telegraph Officers' Association, that no subscriber's pension tmder the 'Superannuation Act should be less than £-52 per annum; was'received and ordered to be acknowledged. A claim for back service by .a con-, tributor in the Government Printing Office was granted, as certified to by the Department coiioerned. •' It was resolved that. the of tho,Crown Law Office be obtained as to whether the • amount paid to members" of. the Permanent Force, acting a-S orderlies" at Government- House;, should bo counted as salary for superannuation p.urpos&s. Ai copy of tha 'opin*. ion, that :it is; still necessary, to obtain the Minister's consent to ■ retirements under Sections 35 and 36 of the Act, was received from the 'Pub-lio Service Commissioner. "•I'fi'iffs'resolved that the'following representation's by. the" Public' Service Association through 'the Public Service Commissioner,,-be not agreed-to:— (a) That' it is'desirable that- any tem-porary-officer-in. Government. Service, who was appointed permanently after -June.- 30, 190.8, may be-allowed to purchase, ror 'super&nnu'-at-ibn purposes, his- service from- th'e date, cf the establisbmerit of' the'fund, and-r.ot'from the date of his "appoijitmont as a permanent officer.; and.' ' ~ . ■ - (b) ■ That "for tlie p&rposes of superannuation' the..position' of Civil Servants retrenched in 1909 be placed: before...tho Commissioners, and that the Commissioners be asked to endeavour to have the 'unbroken service of- such Civil "Servants, prior- tothat retrenchment, treated .-is continuous and added to such servico. as they ' have'had since their reinstatement. ' The,'-acting-secretary reported that'-a contributor, who had been'granted, an allowance 1 on his retirement •as medically: unfit, had declined to accept s suitable position offered to him, arid had, therefore, forfeited his-' allowance. That two. contributors retired on allowance to medically unfit had been - reappointed' to the Public. Servioe, therefore their; allowances', had ceased.'. ■In one case-the new.;.contribution : ,. was, fixed, at. s..per cent. It was resolved'that postmasters be authorised. ,to sig.ri; life certificates, ill cases where agents are'a'ppointcd' tp receive payment of allowances, • v ■ Messrs. AJlpoft, Frjisor, and Huggins were" re-elected as a Claims Comjnitttee for tho ensuing year., j Retiring allowances under .Section 35, ' age.or length .of: service, "totalling £3857 18s. per annum," were granted to 29 contributors -under Section 36. retirements, as medically.unfit, 0 contributors were; granted allowance's totalling £162 ,I'os. per annum:. 'Eight widows.and fourteen children were granted • st-atfitory allow-' : ance's amounting' to £326' per > annum; aggregate* aiiionnt - of' all -allowances granted,' £4346 13s. per-'annum; average allowance under Sections 35 and 36, £118,55. per. annum,' Amount of compensation accrued to "officers, retired, £9196 14s. lid. . , ' -, The amount to credit of- the fund, ill the hands of the Public Trustee, as on January.3l, 191.4, was.£-58't,,531 lis., an increase during the preceding year of £112,307 Bs. 73.
