The net prolit, after writing olf £50 for depreciation, £19 for bad debts, and allowing £50 for tho expenses of moving to the eity municipal markets, amounted to £368 7s.' 5d,, or nearly 15 per cent, on tho paid-up capital. > It also records the following in connection with an egg-laying test at San l! ranoisco 1 "No advice has yet bein received from the executive of the Panama-Pacific Exposition in regard to the suggested international laying competition. Mr. Miller Purvis, of tho poultry advisory board, howovor, writes that he has been in consultation with the executive, adding: 'I .hope to have something dehnite to write you within a very few days. It seems to me that such a competition, started at a time that would' bring it to a close during the poultry show, to be held in connection with the exposition, would be the greatest poultry event that ever happened.'" . Tho Dry Mash System. Tho following dry-mash formula has been adopted for the tests to be carried out at the Hawkesbury College during the' coming competition year:—6olb. fine pollard, 201b. bran, 121b. green lucerne dust, 81b. meat meal (40 per cent, protein), and ljlb. salt. This gives a nutritivo ratio of 1 .*3.83. Chaffed green lucerne will be fod at midday. The daily grain ration will vary from one of maize and wheat, according to season. Thoso who have entered pens for the shedding test should at onco accustom them to the forgoing ration. . - , , .. Utility Poultry Club. The monthly meeting of tho New Zealand Utility Poultry Club was held on February 3. Mr. 6. Willis (president) occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance. . Mr. O. R. Wilson wrote enclosing returns and cheque for tho Vancouver shipment of eggs, which were considered satisfactory. . The Minister of • Agriculture wrote stating that ho would be pleased to consider the'club's request relative to the Government supervising the egglayinff competitions, and that an officer of the Live Stock and Meat Division would be asked to meet tho Utility Club regarding drawing up conditions governing the proposed supervision. AVhen these conditions wore submitted a final decision would bo given in the matter. The letter was received. The secretary of the New Zealand Poultry Association wroto asking thecjub to become affiliated with his.association .> It was decided that the prcsi-1 dent, secretary, and Mr. R. AV. Hawk'e should bo appointed a committee to confer, with the executive'of the New Zealand Poultry Association prior to the annual conference.- . ■ < The secretary of the New.-Zealand Poultry Association wrote asking the club to appoint a committee to prepare a paper on "Lessons Learned from the Egg-laying Competitions," to, be read at the association's annual confer--eiicr! at was .referred to the Ednc3tirfn!S eoMiflttee I .'" The. Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Club wrote inviting the club to .recommends a judge to . act with Mr. IV C. Brown-. : in judging" ; .the' utility classes at its championship show in June, and stating further that the club would be pleased to learn if the ■Utility. Club proposed offering any specials for comnetitioris to its members. It was decided, to recommend Mr. Hawke to adjudicate with tho Government Poultry- Instructor; and that the club donate rivo ono guinea specials for competitions to its members. Mr. AV. A. Nixon offered to give a special prize to tho exhibitor gaining most points in White Leghorns in the utility, section, and Mr. J. B. Merrett said he would also donate a special prize. The_ Educational Committee reported that it had procured photographs of several of tjio teams in the two-year ■ tests for educational purposes. The.Educational Committee reported that tho office of Superintendent of Documents, AVashington, had replied submitting a prico list of-all publications; on poultry now available. The question of purchasing a number .of pamphlets was left to tho committee. , The Educational Committee further reported that Mr. AV. N. Scott Trail, ■8.C., Canada, had written through the New Zealand 'Government requesting to be suppliod with tho latest publications available on the egg-laying competitions. The secretary was directed to sunoly the information. 'l'he president said' tho committee hoped to'arrange a small olub show during fcheVwcik intervening the ninth and tenth competitions. He pointed out that it would give visiting competitors an opportunity of competing for the. gold medals donated by the secretarv'and Mr. J. AV. Green. - The prnnosal was favourably received, and the Educational Committee was empowered to make all arrangements. Several members made complimentary reforenco, to tho article and drawings on the initiation of tho Utility Poultry Club's standard of excellence, contributed to the columns of the "New Zealand Poultry Journal" by the club's nrosident, and on tho motion of Mr. A. E. Wilson a heartv vote of thanks was passed to Mr. AVillis for his able article. Mr. W'illis thanked the members for their appreciation of his work; and said ho looked on it as a duty to the industry. Panama Exposition. Poultryr.ion will be asked to consider at the coming conferenco tho advisability of sending an exhibit of New Zealand poultry to the Panama Exnosition. It would certainly .be a good advertisement for the Dominion, and it is to bo hoped the Government will lond its assistance. Thev should bo prepared to assist the poultry industry in any effort it may make for such a notable event. A representative should bo sent. Ho could work up the necessary data for export trade of eggs to San Francisco and A 7 ancouvcr; he- could report on the famous _ Petaluma poultry farms, the largest in tho world, and he could represent tho New Zealand poultrymen at the Exposition. The poultrymen should help themselves in the matter. A levy of 2s. 6d. each might bo subsidised pound for pound hv the Government, and thug enablo tho industry to be Worthily represented. The Conference. Preparations are advancing for tho poultry conference to be held in AV«I- - next Eastor. The programme is wi/le in its snopc, and progressive m its aims. It only requires a good attendance of producers to make tho event of great value to tho industry.
