( EMPLOYERS FILE PROPOSALS. . ■ ' ."Tho 'Wellington Patent Slip Company and S.' Wood and' Son have tiled claims as employers'in their dispute with the shipwrights. . - Tho employers' proposals are. for'a. week of 45} hours; payment at the rate of Is. 6d. an hour, overtime at the rate of time and a quarter for tho first two hours, time and a half thereafter, and on holidays; double time oil Sundays, Good Friday, and Christmas Day. The place of engagement for tho Patent Slip Company shall bo at the company's workshops at Evans Bay, aiid for S. Wood and Son as at-present. Engagements may, at tho employers' option, also be made at'sonio place in thoCity to be mutually agreed upon, or decided by the Inspector of Awards. If a worker has attended at either of the places of engagement specified at- the ordinary time for commencing work, and is sent to work elsewhere, he shall bo paid at ordinary rates for His travelling time, or bo provided with free transit. . Apprenticeship shall be for five years at. the' following weekly wages:—First yoar, Bs.; second, 12s. 6d.; third, 16s.'; fourth, 20s. ;•• fifth/25b., with no limitation of apprentices. The proposals mako provision for the reference of disputes to the Inspector of Awards 'with appeal to tho Court. • -The award shall (except as otherwise provided) apply only to casual labour engaged from day to day or from hour to hour, and shall not apply to permanent or weekly employees. ' Neither the union nor any member thereof shall do anything, either direct'ly or indirectly, for the ' purpose of preventing any person from working tinder the conditions fixed by this ajvard, or'for the purpose, of inducing any person to abstain from working under the conditions; and for the purposo of constituting a breach of this provision it shall not bo necessary' for tho offender to have any particular person or persons in view at tho 'time of the alleged offence. Union rules, regulations, or resolutions; inconsistent with the terms of the award shall bo inoperative during the currency of the award. The employers recommend as assessors Messrs. D. Birkett and E. E. Stonebanks.
