THE BUTCHERS' STRIKE.
MEAT FAMINE THREATENED
SLAUGHTERING STOPPED. By Telojraph—Pr«ss Association—Copyrielil (Rec. Febnmry'l2, 9.35 p.m.) Sydney, February 12. A meat famine is threatened unless to-night's meeting of the employees teaches a settlement. There were no sales of stock at Homebusli to-day. For the first time in tho history of the State, the sales were postponed owing to tho strike. At a meeting of stock agents and buyers it was decided to postpone the sales until further notice is issued. It is stated that as a result of the Butchers' Union black-listing certain members of tho retail trade anil forbidding carcass butchers to supply them under threat of withdrawal of the slaughtermen, it will be decided by the carcass butchers to close, down to-night until the black list is withdrawn or an amicable settlement reached. A committee has been appointed to handle the trouble, and tho stock owners havo been advised to stop forwarding stock until further advised. Owing to the black-listing, eome fifty butchers' shops in the city and suburbs have been closed. The carcass butchers end tho buying and eelling agents declare that it will be a fight to a finish if the men refuse the compromise: of a 49i-hour week, with a rise of ss. All elaughterinG: for both retail and export trades will cease to-night, failing a settlement.
