Ho received a hearty vote of thanks. Tiio H-atigiotu Bridge is to be rebuilt in concrete at the joiiit expense of the, Knil'anga and Manavvatu County Councils. The decision was arrived at yesterday, when representatives of the two councils held a conference at the bridge site. The cost of this new bridge is estimated at £1000. Mr. Balsillie expresses himself as quite discouraged at the lack of_ response,, and, as mentioned, is' not disposed to make further, .efforts. Ho told' a reporter, however, that the inadequacy of freezing works is serious all over the North Island. Only this week fi man h.ftcl told him that ho would send 2QOD cattle down ■from the Waikato at once if they had works available •to receivo them. There arc outside rumours that a- number of Fcilding farthers arc quietly working out a schema of their owii for works farther north.
