■ . . ... '■■» ■ ■ — CELEBRATIONS FOR ANNIV.ER- ' . SARt BAY. ! At a meeting of tlio Early Settlers' .Association on Tuesday ivigl.it it *rts practically decided to oelturate' ■'Wellington's 73ta. anniversary -(1913).'' on similar, lines to tho recent West Coast Jubilee, by having at least.three 1 days of celebrations: I'riday, January 22, Saturday, '23, and Sunday,' 24. with' a special united thanksgiving service 6u the Sunday. A meeting to set up. a special committee to, carry out the- arrangements is to be called .si.io.rtly.; It/ was thought that t-lik is not .-a 'matter, for tho Early Settlers' Association to run on their own, but' 'Olw which sheuld bo run by the City Council and the citizens of wellingtoiii The proposed attractions are:—Harbour excursions: pienis at the Hutt (the first homo of tho majority of our pioneers) ; sports meeting; special concprt at the Town Hall; public luncheon'to the pioneers; theatre and picture shows to-'entertain tho old fofts; exhibition of early photographs and curios t<i be> arranged in some room in town. It was suggested that possibly the Carnival Committee could arrange to hold their 1915 carnival in conjunction with the celebrations. Tho carnival to commence on Monday, January 18, and' run for a week. Special efforts are being made for tho citizens to treat this.weeK as a real carnival week; special trains' to run from all parts of the eauntry to Wellington; school children to be carried free, or at reduced rates, and spe- . cial reduced tickets to be issued to all settlors, over a certain age.
