A rather extraordinary situation lias .been found to -exist in connection with tho poll for Patea Harbour improvements which was taken yesterday, A number of would-be Voters found that they were not on the roll, tliaiigh they had been paying rates Fot. twelve years, while tho names of many people who have.been dead twelve years are still on. During the month of January the building permits issued by the ,'fioroiigh of Wanganui totalled £6006 in* value. About three months ago tho-Wanga* nui Borough Council instructed, its tramway officers to confer with the secretary of the Gonville-Castieeliff Tramway Board, and draw up a' report on the question of sotting up a, Tramway Beard for the whole district, On Titesrlay night, however, the. council rescinded tho resolution on tho ground that their officers should not be asked to express any opinion on what was really a policy measure.- • . •
