A meeting of the Sports Committee of the Wellington Carnival Committee was held last evening, Mr. J, H. Pollock, vi.c#-chirirman, presiding , It was dc-cidcd that tljo Esecutivo CtaiiU'iitteo be 1 asked .-to approach, tho c'i'aiifiian of tho Education Board with' a yiotf U) the board granting a.' general school-libliday in the- Wellington district on Friday, March 6,-the date 911 which the schools' sports .will,"bo held. It was reported that negotiations were in train for the various picture theatres in tho city to organise an entertainment during Carnival Week. . Tho question of publishing the programme for tho snorts during tho Carnival was discussed". It was-decided that aa endeavour bo raado to publish as soon as possible. . , In consequence of the axemen's meeting, which was to be held 011 Wednesday, March 4, having fallen through, "it was decided to approach the commander of H.M.S. Philomel and ask hi.m to allow his men to take part in a naval sports meeting, provided tho warship is in port. It Was decided that the various firo brigades in the city be asked to give a display on ono night during the Carnival. An offer was made fty.a member of "the Wednesday Cricket Association to pro.vido a fancy cricket match 0(1 Wednesday, March 4—the opening day .of the Carnival. It was proposed that the Wellington Bowling Centre be approached with a view to holdlug a competition at a date te be fixed, ' ,
