Association yesterday dealt with the appointment of a nominee as member of the Board or' Agriculture, and three delegates to attend tho board's conference next Friday, iilembors' ideas conflicted as to patches of the .oad should bo coneretby the association or. by the delegates. It was Bnally agreed to submit two names to a vote, the result being :--Mr. Conway (clouted;, proposed by the chairman and Mr.. Hodder, 14 votes; Mr: S. It. Lancaster, proposed- by Messrs. Wildo and Gillies, 13 votes. .Seven wero nominated as , delegates, and Messrs. Lancaster, Jacob, and Hodder elected. . Tho Manawatu County Council is proposing that the County Councils of Rahgitikei, Oroua, Pohangina, Kiwitea, , and Kairanga should combine to raise a joint loan of £100,000 for.road im- . provements, including the tarring of tho Sandon-'Awahuri, and ■ FoildingAwahuri and otlicr roads,, which are much used by motors.' The Manawatu Comity. Council expects to require about £20,000 of the loan, and holds that the joint action ■ proposed will save one per cent, on loan charges. On Monday night tlie Palmerston Chamber of Commerce discussed railway matters.. Mr. M. A. Elliott moved: "That, in consequence of tho heavy, stock traffic-.'a special railway . district shed should bo found, for the'supply of wagons on the sections embracing Foxton to Woodville and LcvTn to 'Halcombe."' Ho-said that at present the 'district was controlled fro/n Wan'ganui, whither applications. had : to bo sent, and this caused delay. Mr. Broad suggested : asking that Palmerston should be made a chief district traffic manager's station. '~ Other members supported this proposal, on the advice of .the chairman ■ (Mr. F. J. Nathan) it was withdrawn, . and the. original motion carried. Tho Feilding' Chamber, of Commerce will bo asked, to support it. Mr. Fliott also-moved: "That a general rebate be_ granted on .the freight of wool carried from the seaports to inland towns'for scouring." He. stMod that, in many cases, the Department get railage three'times over on the same wool—first from the' farmer to the sea:port for sale', 'secondly 'back to. thoi.iii- ' 'land town for,scouring, and, tiiiully, back: again to a, seaport for .phipmen't.
