Blamires ha<i got up to nine when Mailey took a film catch m tho slips. Sullivan scored fast, but was caught when lie bad scored 21. Davis and Pratt scored well, and tite total mounted quickly. When ho was 20, Davis was caught.., and •Pratt then began to hit out. He scored well all round the wicket, hut, at 89,he did not get fairly , on to MaiJey, and was caught at leg. Ho , had played a line innings. Gardner took risks, and smote hard, but was lucky to get his Id. Doberty and Fearon made a fair stand, but the rest did little good, and tho innings dosed far. a total of 282. After a short interval, Taranaki took the field, Collins and 'M'Gregor batting.
