Ed into a profitable side-line is illustrated by tho fact that tho wifo of a small farmer at AVaiau, Southland,'has, "up to the present this, season, gathered over 6cwt. off her ra'spbtrry plot. Slio expects to get cjuito half as much again before the season is ended, and the net returns, selling at 6d. per lb., with a good demand, mount up to 'quite a respectable little sum. Australia is becoming quite a good market for New Zealand Romncys, and, , for' some considerable time -'shipments' havo been going on on. behalf of private breeders aud dealers. At present ■the- Romncys in Australia are said to be a scrubby lot, and the Dominion breeders have been discussing the question of sending over a representative shipment. The council of tho Romney Marsh .Sheep Brceders' Association some time ago set up a sub-committee to consider it proposal for the association to arrange for a shipment of some reallygood rams to tho Sydney sheep sale, at' JCaster time. The sub-committoe met at Feilding last week, and dtfeided that, in view of tho fact that there was such a good market in New Zealand for rams this season, tho proposal to ship to Australia be dropped this year. ' .
