TORIES AND THE TRULY VIRTUOUS.

- Sir, —Why is your truly virtuous contemporary so silly in its rage ■ against the "Tories"? Who are the "Tories" and where do the "Whigs" cotno in? Your contemporary seems to he afflicted w'itli "Tories on the brain," if one is correct in assuming the existence cf both premises. Every day we hear "He's got 'em again.!" and so ho lias, badly. ! From Thursday's articles it seems that , these wicked people the "Tt-ries" are not ashamed! Just, liko our first parents who wcro not ashamed because they had nothing on to ha ashamed of, tho split skirt riot yet having come. into fashion. ,It appears also that they liavo incurred expenditure, which, however, it seems, tho "Liberals" don't object to! Expenditure >s, like the rain, falling on tho just anil on tho unjust; white we can understand the "Liberal" does not object to this beneficent dew, it is naturally aggravating to th* truly virtuous, your contemporary, that the other fellow is also participating. This was not so when the "Liberals" wcro on'top. Hence' your contemporary's dilemma. ■It appears the "Tories" have .been obliged to raise funds to pay the liabilities incurred by the "Liberals." X-o wonder vour truly vii'tuoiis contemporary is wild! That is consequent on having to keep silence about these "Whigs." • But, after all, Tory newspapers are more sunken in iniquity than even "Tories," for they are going "to swallow the Philomel"! which your contemporary says "would b© amusing jf it were not seriously deplorable."
