A complimentary benefit was given by Mr. aabington, proprietor of the Crown Pictures, Lower Hutt, last evening, in aid of the Baldwin Cup fund of Hutt Fire Brigada. A picture .enter- , tainment formed tb.o first half of the programme, and Messrs. Loickyer and Simpson, of Petone, gave Iwmorpus sketohes during the latter portion. The 'Baldwin Cup is to bcr eompeted for on February 28 by the brigades in the Hntt Valley. i A smoke concert was tendered to Mr. J. M'Kehzlo by' tho Petono Football Club last evening. At the Lower Hutt Police Court yesterday, beforo Messrs. Chapman and James, J.P.'s, Martin Coogati, who was. charged with being found illegally on premises, was sentenced to one month's inrorisonment, , The Petone Band Carnival promises 'to be a success, and over 200 adults and children are talcing part .in it. Rehearsals are being lieltl afternoon and evening, under the direction of Mr. Oardston. A. depot will be opened in Jackson Street next Week, where the prizes will' be exhibited, and the secretary, Mr, S. Clark, will bo in. attendance daily. • Much satisfaction regarding the financial position of- the Petono Technical School Board Was expressed at the monthly meeting of that body.. It was pointed" out by Mr. J.
