FIRES.
OUTBREAK AT FLOUR MILLS. (By Tdeeraph.-Prejs Association.) Oamaru, February 3. A fire broke out this afternoon in the engine-room of the largo Crown Flour Mills, tho property of Messrs. J. and T. Meek,' and soon the inside of the room was a mass of flames. Tho brigado wero called out, and. with a fine pressure of water, soon had the fire subdued. The building is of ston'o, but the wood-work is badlv destroyed. The big engine- suffered little or no damage. There is a largo lino of insurance in the Royal office on. the mill.
The London Daily Graphic" states, under date 12th' November. 1913:—Will the tim> como when our Fire Brigades will no longer be needed' Certain it is that a great number of fires are to-day nipped in the bud without the assistance °J ths man in the brass helmet, by means of tho many in.gonious fire extinguishers which nre on tho market.
