The:police tapped the electric tramway cable for light during tho exploration of tho shaft) and decided to drag Alio bottom. The search proved fruitless. The police aro now satisfied that the Grampian's suspected, passenger was concorned in the murder.

' Tho "Daily Mail" states that Rogers was detained by the Canadian police at St. John's, on the arrival of the Grampian. He admits that his real name is Joseph Rowland.,, but denies that he knew Reeks. Only sis dollars were found in his possession. He declares that ho lost a wallet containing £28 near Wolverhampton and decided to return to Canada, whero ho had resided for several years. Tho authorities ' consider his statements are not fr&Dki and they aro therefore holding him until they ! can confirm his previous residence in Canada.
