A well-known riflo shot, speaking to a reporter yesterday, stated that, the shooting done by the Territorials is not as effective as that done by-members attached to rifle clubs. The attendance at tho ranges now is not so large as it was. three or four years age, and the. need is felt for some variety to Sustain interest, K miniature rifle range- is being installed at Trcntn&m, and this should serve as an encouragement to young shots, but the ■question arises as to what can.be done to keep up tho interest of members of rifle clubs,_ ge't.now members, and at tlio same time make the club more selfsupporting What class of shooting will appeal mostly to the average man ? It is claimed that the introduction of ttic shot-gun, and the clay pigeon would revive interest to a good ■ extent, .while ■it. would liot interfere gteatly With the more serious business connected with range- shooting. Clay-shooting appeals to njj- classes, find would tend to bring new -meoibors to the rifle clubs,' There is also tho social side. When-once a. man , conimone.es to "break" elays, he gets very ■ enthusiastic, A number of local men have been icaiug into the question of "C-lay" shooting, apart -from rifle clubs, for some, time, and there is a possibility of a. club being formed shortly.
