On Saturday evening the orte-man coupling event under the auspices of the Carterton Volunteer-Firo Brigade, was run for a gold medal, donated fey the Fire Brigades' Supply Co.. of Napier. The results were: A. E. Hail, 3D 4-osec, 1; A. Desmond, 40 2-osec, 2, D. Byrno and FiJacksoa tied for third place, and in the run'off Byrrie'won, tie time re* gistered being 41 4-osec. The Carterton • Homing Pigeon Club had to postpone their pigeon face (to have been flown from Kaitokc) on account of the boisterous weather. The race will-bo decided on Thursday next. A special meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council will bo hold on February 12 to'accept tenders for th<s construction, of the nert' ferro-concrete bridge over the. Waiohitte; also to consider applications for.the posilioa of qlerk of works for the same work. . Tenders have been accepted as under for metalling contracts by the Wairarapa South County CoWeih—Delivery 500-cubic yards metal on Admiral Road, T. Harvey, 4s. Bd. per yard; delivery 1100 cubic yards metal, Park Read, W. Hansen, Is. 7Jd. per yard. The "overseer of the Wairarapa South County Council has been instructed to prepare estimates for the construction of concrete culverts in different lengtV; up to 1C feet. Councillors are of opinion that in many instances where wooden culverts arc broken jt will be wiser itnd cheaper to have these culverts fe-ere'et-ecl in concrete.
