ROYAL ARTILLERY BAND.
The famous band of tho Royal Regiment of Artillery, which has been providing the chief music for tho Auckland Exhibition and is now touring to give other towns an opportunity to hear it, is to give a brief series of concerts in Wellington, commencing on Friday evening. The concerts will bo held /in the Town Hall in tho evenings, and in tho Athletic I'ark on Saturday,. , and probably Sunday, afternoons, This great British Imiul, with its world-wide reputation, will doubtless be a revelation to all v,'W liwipit. It is far removed in structure.from those with which the pcoplo of tbi.i country aro generally familiar, for in it brass instruments are' subordinated to the wood-wind, which tills its work with delicacy. It is in theory a part of tho Imperial forces; but while its members aro thus attached to tho Army, each of them is a thoroughly trained and highly-paid artist, wlioso wholo time is given up to his musical work. The band is in charge of Mr. E. C. Stretton, who is not only one of tho leading bandmasters of the world, but holds tho highest position available to » musician in tho Imperial foices. Tho repertoire of tho band is, of course, enormous, and tho concerts to he given in Wellington"will consist of a varioty of music to'suit''evc_ry tasto.'fho band gavo two concerts in tho Town Hall in Nqvombor, on its way to Auckland, playing to phenomenally largo audiences, and in ordor to meet.' tho probable demand for scats, the box . plans aro being opeued at the Dresden this morning. ■ V; ' •
