DIRECTIONS TO EXPORTERS, . Tho following circular has beon issued by the Department of Agriculture- to exporters of meat and meat products ■ in Now Zealand, sotting forth the requirements of thd American authorities in regard to meat shipped from the Dominion :— ; ,'-'Tho requirements of the American authorities aro that each carcass shall have affixed to it a tag bearing the registered, number of tho meat export slaughterhouse, in which tho stock was slaughtered, and tho following wording, together with tho inspector's signature: ■'This meat has been examined by me, nnd by ante and post-mortem veterinary inspection, is found to be from from disease, and suitable in every way for ■human consumption, and the meat has ;n6t been treated with chemical preservative's or other foreign substances injurious to health. . In the case of New Zealand meat originally shipped to England for sale there, but -instead (after arrival) sont on to ; United States ports,.- the' United States authorities'are willyip; to accept this meat, "provided that'the tags are worded as above, and, further, that these tags are affixed to the carcass by means of wire, and seals. This cable message is the first intimation which. we have received as to tho necessity for affixing tags in this way. Further inquiry oil this jwint is being made. _A copy of this inspection certificate is also required in connection with meat shipped direct from New Zealand to San Francisco: Also, as meat shipped to Vancouver is sometimes sent on from there .into tho United States, a similar certificate should accompany consignments of meat to that port. ' .This certificate can Tib furnished Dy any veterinary officer engaged in meat inspection duty in Now Zealand."
