Judgment was given t-liis afternoon by Mr. 0. 0, Kettlo, S.M., in tho test case, Frederick Maymnn v. the Auckland Watcrsido _ Worko-rs' TJnibn, sn irhich. the plaintiff) a .member of the old Waterside Workers' tJnion, who had been on strike, claimed £25 damages from the new" union because hphad not been allowed to work oii a ship as ho ivas not a member of the new niuon, and had been ref-used membership to the union when ho applied for 6ucli membership. / Tho magistrate found that tho terras of Mayman's 'maploymoat veto that ho might" be dismissed at any time. Tlio union was perfectly within its rights in insisting that work bo not _ given to Maymafi. and in w> allowing him to join fUo union. Tho union's preferouce elsueo was not against public policy or the labour laws, A verdict was entered for defendant.
