■ TWO NEW MEMBERS; MESSRS. FOSTER & TOLHURST. Under tlio Public Trust Office- Amendment Act passed last- session power is given to the Government to increase the numerical strength of tho Public Trust Office* Board by tho appointment of two additional members to the board who aro not- connected with the Public Son-ice in any way. Tho provision in tho Act is tho outcome of recommendations mado by tho Commission which investigated tlio affairs of tho Public Trust Oflico, and whoso report was presented, to Parliament last session. The new Av,t is now in force, and tho various alterations which it provides in tho working of the Department arc wow being completed.

Yesterday the Government mado tlio two extra appointments- to the board for which tho new Act provides. Tlio gentlemen appointed are Mr. G. K. Tolliurst and Mr. W. G. Ifosteiv Mr. Tolhmrst has'boon for many years connoted with banking institutions in tho Dominion. Somo little time ago ho retired from tho position of Inspector for New Zealand for. the Union Bank of Australia. Mr. Foster has had wide osperieiioein business'and thoroughly understands the value of farming land and stock. Ho was for some tinio chnirnuui of the Asssts Realisation Board of tho Bank of New Zealand, which position lie held until tho , board's extinction'in 19Q7. He at present holds the important,position of chairman and managing director of tlio ■Wellington Meat Export Co. ' ■ - Interyiewwl by a Dominion representative in connection with tho'now-ap-pointments, to thft Public Trust'- Office Board, the Minister in charge of the Department (the Hon. A. L. Hordnian) said he thought that it would be. generally conceded that tho Government had been fortunate in securing tho services of such a-blo and highly" experienced gentlemen as Mr. Foster" iukl Mr. Tolhursfc to-.help in the conduct of the burliness of a largo State institution. The Public Trust Office had made remarkable progress during recent years.
