R..M.S. Aorangi, which, arrived from San Francisco yesterday, brought with her copies \of American papers, ono of which—tho "San Francisco Chronicle" —contained tho following report under date- January 4■:— ' '
The Portland , branch of the United States Hydrographic Office has advices of two submarine disturbances occurring in tho Pacific Ocean-on December 19. Second Officer H.Claydon, of the British steamer . Aorangi • made tho reports. The'report ears.'that'at 12.15 p.m. on Deccinber 19, in latitnde 6 degrees 20 minutes south, longitudo 144 degrees 18 J' minutes west,' a distinct Bubmarina disturbance was felt. Again at 2.26 p.m. on the same day in latiiudo 5 degrees 57 minutes south, longitudo 144 degrees 5 minutes west, another shock was felt, moro severe and longer than the first.
