A "day nursery" for the children of employed mothers, which lias Itcen established by the Social _ Service Commission of the city in conjunction with tko Council of Women, was formally opened by the Rev. Dr. Clay, <of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Tho Social Service Commission lias as its president the Roman Catholic- Bishop of Victoria, Dr. Macdonald, ami among its members the Anglican' Bishop, Dr. Roper, and the clergy of all the churches of the ciiy. It meets monthly to cotiridor the relation of/organised religion to social welfare, ami to take sneh action as is deemed wisp by tho. whole body. At the opening referred to above there were ministerial representatives of tho Roman, Anglican, Pi'eslkterian,
Methodist, Baptist, Congregational, n n.d Reformed Episcopal Churches, arid tho local captain of tho Salvation Army, indirectly the commission is doing an o.xcollent work for mutual understanding.
