'retiring'on superannuation. ■ Mr.'Dawson.'Htaiiomiiastef at Thonidoii, was in the 'chair, and Mr. Hutchings, assist-ant-s-iatiQnmastcr at.Lambton, .'made the presentation (which consisted of two saddle-back easy-chairs and an oak clock), on behalt of the members of the staff. .On behalf of tho A.S.R.S., Mr. Lee. presented Mr, Cumniinfcs with the society's gold medallion, The toast of "The Guest" was proposed by Mr. Hutchiiigs, and various. speakers from each branch of the service supported it. Mr. Ouminings. in his reply, gave a sltoteh of his career. Starting in 1.876 at New Plymouth, ho was subsequently transferred to Kawa-Kawa as stationmaster, porter, and guard, theiieo to Pie ton, and from there to I.ambton, whore ho has been stationed for the last fourteen years. Tho following other toasts were proposed: "The Officers' Institute," by M r. Lee, a.rt.d replied to by Messrs. Longten and Carter; "The A.S.tt.S.," by the chairman, and replied to by Messrs. Jones and Leo, During the evening musical items Were contributed by members of the stnif. A very enjoyable evening was spent, there being over 120 members present.
