A neat, compact, and, most useful little volume to those concerned has just been published by Mr. P, 0. Watt, entitled "New Zealand Building Trades' Guide and System of Measurement'." The odvent of the" book should supply <i want amongst those engaged in tho building trade in New Zealand, i.e., a-standard system and regulation measurement, and a book of reference on matters relating to contracting generally. The systems of measurement have been based on the actual experience of the writer in Croat Britain., America, and Australasia during the 2,1 years that Sir. Watt has Iw - engaged in the building aiul contrasting trades, and are based on what is considered t.ho best modes in the world, and adapted for use in New Zealand. Tho system of measurement should form a proper basis of measuring for quantity surveying, for settlement of disputes between parties, etc. The ready reference jit the index to supplies of goods, the different owards and municipal by-laws affecting the building trade, also measurements and weights of various materials and various other useful information, should prove of great value to those fsn(a<jcd in that partieular business, and for estimating purposes.
