ROWING.

THE N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS. (By Telegraph.—PreES Asfxyiiitjnn.} Auckland, January 29. Tho vowing championships oi' New Zealand were decided at the annual regatta at Mercer to-day, and woro attended by niany thousands of people, conveyed thither from all parts of the provinco by excursion trains. Ins weather conditions generally were suitable. A notable featuro of the regatta, considered as'a Dominion championship meeting, was the almost total absence of outside competition in the classic events, the champion fours, pairs, double scuUra, and single sculls. With the single exception of tho Wang&mu oarsmen, tho competitors were rowing nteu from various clubs in tho district governed by the Auckland Rowing Association. No attempt has been mado to Conceal the fact that the Wellington and Marlborough oarsmen in particular regard tho Waikato River as an undesirable course for a championship regatta. Some of them have gone so far as to express the opinion that tho course does not afford equal conditions for all competitors. Tho results are:—
