Leadley wroto complaining that local' producers were handicapped as against Australians by discriminating shipping rates. Ho could not land produce at Auckland or way ports as cheaply as Australian farmers could; Thoshipping interests seemed to ba no friends to the farmers, though farmers rallied to their assistance lrtel.v. Thematter was referred to a committee for investigation and report.
