THE TAVIUNI PUTS TO SEA.

FIREMEN GIVE WAY. Shortly before eight o'clock yesterday morning the Union Company's cargo freighter Taviuni sailed from the stream for New Plymouth with her usual stokehold complement, viz., three- firemen and two trimmers. It will bo remembered that on Monday one of tho firemen signed off tho vessel, and tho company found it a difficult matter to secure tho services of a substitute. Later, it was brought under the company's notice that the firemen demanded six men in the stokehold. This demand was smartly turned down by the corri.pany. As a man could not be found on Tuesday to fill tho blank, tho vessel moved out into the stream and anchored. Yesterday morning tlio men gave way, and a fireman was then soon found.
