TERRIBLE TRAGEDY.
WIFE MURDERED,
HUSBAND ATTEMPTS SUICIDE,
RESCUED IN A BAD WAY. By TelesraDh—Press Association—Coiyrieht (Rec. January 28, 11.30 p.m.) Sydney, January 28. A terrible tragedy occurred at Wavcrley. A boy, named Mullan, on entering his parents' room, discovered his mother in bod with her head frightfully battered, and tho nose and ear cut off. She was still alive, but died at tho hospital. _\ The father, James Mullan, was missing, but some hours later the proprietor of Oylies's baths at Coogee saw Mullan fully clothed jump from tho rocks into the sea. Ho plunged to tho rescue. Mullan was then ravins about killing his wife. After a desperate struggle for twenty minutes the proprietor managed to rescue tho man, and he was taken to tho Police Station. He was in a bad way, but recovered. Tho cause of tho crime is a mystery. Mullan, his wife and five children, lived happily together. Mullan suffered from heart troublo, and was under medical It is presumed that in a fit of dementia ho attacked his sleeping wife.
To-day Mullan was remanded on a charge of murdering his wife. Though the family were sleeping in the room adjoining the tragedy they heard nothing.
