FRENCH MARKETS.
STATEMENT BY SIR WM. HALLJONES. ■ Spnaking at a banquet tendered him in Timani last week". ' Sir Wni. IlnllJoncs stated that- while in tho Old I Country, had ho had his wish carried I out, he could havo opened up a large market for mutton nnd bntter. He referred to France. The President- of tho French Republic, to whom ho had shown New Zealand produce, was delighted with it, and astonished with tho price :;t which it coulrl be- obtained. If that could have been followed.up by business dealings, and conditions arranged with France in rogarrl to tariifa on certain articles, it would havo been greatly to New Zealand's advantage. Ho might linvo been as successful with Franco as he had been with Switzerland and New York. That, however, wns a work for tho Government, and ho believed it could got tho meat into Franco without any difficulty if tlio propm , means wore used. This, of .ararse, .would, mean the increased prosperity of the Dominion. (Applause.)
