The authorities refused to grant tho request on the ground of a trade dispute. It is estimated that there are 31,000 persons idlo in tho building trades, and 13,000 coal porters and 'carmen. The coal strikers are granting permits to tho hospitals, but refused permits to the Salvation Aimy, on the ground that ,the Army intended to sell the coal. CLAIMS RECEIVED. BUT WILL THEY BE ALLOWED ? Upon the advice of tho union officials, the builders' strikers presented themselves to the Government for registration as unemployed workmen.
