Australian Artists in Londen. : . A very interesting dinner was recently given in London, at which Australian artists at present living in England were- tho principal guests. Among tliGSo present were: Mr. ijongstaff, Mr. Qcinn, Mr. Tom Ro'ierts, Air. George Lambert, Mr. Will Ashton (who has since left for Australia), Mr. B. 15. Minns, Mr. Will Dyson, who lias donesuch excellent work since hia arrival in tho big city, Mr. Bid Long, Mr. Fullwood, Mr. H. Cohen, Mr. Horace Brodsky, Mr. Bryant, Mr. Julius Olsson, Air. Dprweitt Wood, A.R.A., who may be remembered as a notabla sculptor, and Professor Marshall Hall. Mr. Arthur Streoton was in the- chair. Mention was made' of the success achieved by Australians in different parts of tlie world, including the election of Messrs. Coates, Burgess, and Ashton to the R. 0.1., Messrs. Strceton and Lever's honourable mention at l*ittsburg; U.S.A., and Mr, Coates's win of a bronze medal in the Salon. Dr. and Mra. Hafcourt Arthur have returned from their holiday. Mrs. J. Darling and family are: returning from Paramata on Monday next. Mr. B. Greene and Mrs. Greene, of Wyalong, New South Wales, are- making an extensive motor tour of tho Bo* minion, starting from Auckland. The Misses Nathan were passengers by the Maori for tftc south last evening. . ___ . . Mr. C. N. Orbell and Mrs. Orbel! havo lately returned from their trip Heme. Mrs. Powdrell and Miss Powdrell, who have been staying at Dannovirkd for the tennis tournament, left on Monday for Wairoa. Dr. and Mrs. M'Hoy, from Nelson, are at present in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. G, N. Foi'ckn, wljo.hay© recently returned from England, havo taken up residence, in Geraldine. Dr. Elizabeth Giinn is visiting Timani as the guest of Mrs. W. Gtinn, Wai-iti Road. Mrs. Stevens and Miss Squire Stevens, of America, are at present tcuring New Zealand. Mrs. W. Fartoii is severely ill at present, and yesterday entered a private , hospital. ' , ' Mrs. H. R. Bunny, from Palmerston, is visiting friends in the Wairarapa. Dr. and Mrs. Gibson, of South' Canterbury, returned last week from their trip to England.. Mr. and Mrs.. Oscar Asehe (Miss Lily Brayton) returned to London early t'jis month from their South African tour. Mrs. B. Dnule.v, of Morrinsville, , Auckland, who lias been spending a few days in Wellington with her sister— Mrs. Taylor—returns to her home by to-day's Main Trunk express. . At Taiharie last week the marriage took place of Miss Mary M'Neill, of Taihape, to Mr.-Petor •Mimroe, of Tiriaukawa, the Rev. 11. H; Catlicrwood officiating. Mrs.-Chas. Zocharialv and daughter havo returned to.town for a few days, and aro staying at the Albert Hotel, prior to their departure oil February (5 on an extended visit to Australia. Mips Motto is sailing for London early in February. The death occurred on .Saturday, January 17. at 2 p.m.. in the Victoria Hospital, Brisbane, of Lady Br!l, relict of the Into Sir -Joshua Peter Bell, K.C.M.G.,. of Jimbour station, and a Queensland pioneer and politician. Lady Bell was at tho time of her marriage in the early 'sixties rtu acknowledged beauty, and her geniality ami hospitality endeared her to all who mot her. At their beautiful home :it Jimbour station Sir Joshua and Lady Bell were noted for their hospitality.
