BOXING.
(By TeleEraph.-Speoia! Correspondent.) Hastings, January 27. The contest between the two wellknown heavy-weight boxers, "Barney" Ireland, of AA r aipa\va, and AV. Bartlett, of Christchurch, is creating considerable interest amongst Hawko's'Bay sportsmen. The local Boxing Association has put up a mirse of £50, and tho event will he desided in tlie Princess Theatre on Thursday night. The pair have met once- previously at Wanganut, when the refereo gave the decision as a draw. On the present occasion both' contestants have undergone a thorough preparation, and there is every prospect of a keen and strenuous exhibition. Ireland will box at about list., while ]iis opponent will enter the ring very close to 12st.
