Bunny), and, Councillors iiobbs, Ball, I'arsoiiagc, Glendon, Kempthorne, Meldrum, iiodgins, and Dawson. In regard to a letter received from Mr. H. At. Hayward, asking what if any, wcro being taken with regaru to passenger traffic in the borough, the. Tewii Clerk was instructed to write to the various local bodies riinning cars, with the object u| obtuining ml'oMjiatiea. A matter.which the , council has at present under consideration is tuo dis» posftl and 'removal of hoaso rtfuse in tho ■ borough, A report Iras already been brought down on tho matter. ' Oh (bohiilf of the ratepayers of Western Butt, Mr. J.'W. M'l)Bu.gall addressed the council at its meeting in this connection. Sonio of the yards, stated Mr. Sl'Dougall, were not. in a state they should bo. Tlw speaker considered that it was the duty of tho council to adopt other means than those proposed. It was decided t<> instruct tlio 'engineer to havo an inspection iiiado of premises in tho borough, and report. it was decided to forward a strong protest to the. Government with i-cgard to the growth of noxious weeds itt the district, and also to forward a letter received from Mr. Hayward, drawing attention to the matter.
A list of those ratepayers who havo failed to coiiiieqi; up' their premises with tho drainage scheme was placed before the council. ThiWo ratepayers wrote to the effect tliat they were prefia.red to pay fpH ordinary water rates if the council was prepared to ftimish a 1-inch main water simply to their properties. It ttns decided to gTiiut tho request on condition that the cost does not exceed £15.
It was decided t° comply with n ro* nuest' froni "secretary of tlie Gfncefield Co., Ltd., that the ehaiHipllini! and kerhing of tlie now Graeefidd Road bo allowed to stand ovtr.
Tho application of tho secretary of the Defence Sitiff's ■ Picnic Committee for the use of the Recreation Ground and buildings for Fobmafv 0 was granted.
Licenses for public bulls for tho vear woro "ranted to..the . following:—Mr. it. T. Hawthorn, Mr, j. lkbinisfcon, tlio Rev. B, H. Gin»er, tho Rev. J. Jonca and the Committee.
