FEATHERSTON, On Monday afternoon, a horse at* tached to a fcwo-wheelerl trap; while standing in front of Mm Bank cf New Zealand, near a railway crossing, became frightened by the whistle of an approaching train, and broke away. It attempted to cross the lino in. front of tho train, aud was caught by the engine and carried along for about twenty yards. The trap was badly smashed, aud the horse was seriously injured, and had to be shot, Mr. J. T. Bicknell, of Kahutara, was the owner. TAIHAPg. Four rinks of Taihape bowlers visited Huutorville on Anniversary Day, anii met tho representatives of the local club. The result- of tho meeting was in favour of Taihape, who won tbo four rinks and scored 80 points to their opponents' 59. The points in each rink wero as follow: —22—11, 21 —15, 17 —1-1, 20 —19. At Hihitahi on Friday, a man nnnred Alex, Irvine sustained a broken leg through falling over a signal wire at tho railway station. He was brought to tlio Taihape Hospital for treatment, Mr. Allen j'. Euglobertzert, a visitor from Wellington, landed nine trout, averaging 2Jlb. weight, from the Tautapu ; River on Friday.
