PARKER IN FINE FORM. VICTORIA WINS THE SHIELD AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. By Telciranh—Pres« Association—CouyrisM (Rec. January 26, 10.25 p.m.) Melbourne, Jamuu-y 26. After a night's rain, the weather was fino for tho concluding day of the Australasian amateur track and field championships. Tho track improved during the day, and though the attendance flns only moderate there was a fine day's sport. The spectators were unusually enthusiastic over Parker's wonderful perfounaneo in winning the 100 yds., 220 yds., and quarter-mile championships.' Several of the events provided great finishes. Victoria won the shield with six points, Now South Wales scoring five, New Zealand two, Queensland one, South Australia one, and Tasmania nil. G. L. Parker, the American sprinter, has a deceptive style, but is a strong finisher. He drew inside running in hoth of to-day's events. He regards as his finest achievement his victory in the quarter-milo championship, for which he received an ovation. G. P. Keddell lost his titles to the 120 yds. and 440 yds. hurdles championship, while Dormer ran much below his form. J. B. Fender, of Adelaide, was tho South Australian choice for the 120 yds. hurdles, but was'unable to'start owing to an injury. L. H. Wallman, the second string, "effected a surprise by winning tho event and breaking KeddelPs Victorian record of Saturday, ,Tho mile provided a brilliant neck-to-neck race between Power and Thorpe, and a thrilling finish up tho straight, the crowd enthusing. Tho American broke Shnibb's; Victorian record of 1905 j by several yards. I Tn the three-milo walk there was a groat battle from start to finish between l'ickard and Murray, but Caslunan walked indifferently. The quarter-mile hurdles saw a rattling performance by Watson.
