MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
Tho Wellington City Council met last night. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided, and there were present, aiso; Councillors ]!. Fletcher, •J. E. Fitzgerald,,A. H. Hmdmarsh, M. F. Luckie, B. Trogeav, J. Fuller, L. M'Kcnr.ie, W.T. Thompson, J. Godl>ci', ft- Frost. W, H, 1». Barber, T. C. A- Hislo-p, and R. A. Wright. . It was deckled that ■ the request- o.f certain ratepayers at Happy Valloj Koad'that they should not up required to provide tlio cost of laying the spcciaf drauiago pipes over the Happy 'Yallej Stream should not be acceded to.
The City Solicitor lias been instructor to take immediate, action to compel the Public Trustee-to drain .1 number .of houses at Island Bay.
Tlio council resolved: —"That tiro request of a firm- of carriage buildeffi that tlio specification for motor-cars required by the Tramways Department l;o altered to enable separate tenders to he received for the chassis and tho body ha not acceded to." 'The Oity Engineer was authorised to put in hand, the construction of a. wncrete wa.il at' Evatiß Bay to prerait damage to the road by the sea. .The Outlying Districts Committee reported that they liave further considered tho question, of -encroachments existing throughout tl-io city, and recommend that whore .fences have already been erected along tho edgo of the encroachment, the same should be allowed to remain, but that in tho case of all now grants tho open type of fence suggested by tho City Engineer should 1,6 insisted upon. In all eases marking posts must be placed 011 the boundary of the pri vate property.
