In a communication addressed to tho Harbour Board, tho secretary of the newly-formed Tally Clerks' Union has complained that tho tally clerks' room is now open only to certain clerks. Tho writer of the letter suggests that tlio room should ho controlled by the union's executive, arid that tho board should enlarge tho room to meet tho present requirements of the casual tally clerks. It is also suggested that the. following rules be enforced: —(a) That a signboard be fixed above the entrance, viz., "Casual tally clerks' room";-(b) that the control of the room be in the, hands of the union's executive; fc) that tho board undertake to supply keys for the door, at a nominal cost-, to bo supplied to each member through the secretary, the union to be responsible for the payment for same; (d) that no person under tho influence of drink be allowed to remain in the room ; (e) that no intoxicating drink be allowed in the room: (f) thai, the paint on the windows be removed; (g) that card-playing ami gambling of any description be debarred : (li) that- the union bo allowed to hold its monthly meetings in the room. The board will consider these requests at its next, meeting.
