THE NATIONAL SENTIMENT. DEFECTION FROM FEDERATION WILL NOT HELP IT. (Rec. January 26, 8.50 p.m.) ! Sydney, January 26. The "Sydney Morning HeraM's" Melbourne correspondent says "The growing national sentiment, which was advanced as tho reason why New Zealand was adverse to being dhvgged at the chariot wheels of Australia, cannot bo helped by tho _ Dominion's defection from tho Olympic Federation. The National Council to hi? recognised by tlm International Olympic Committee' can only ho constituted by one represcnta-. tive of Australia and New Zealand on that committee, which lias already refused an application from South Africa for separate representation on the grounds of increasing tho voting powers of tho Em* piro beyond tho number allotted to the United States and the Continental nations."
