ORGAN RECITAL.

Tho City Organist, Mr. Bernard F. Pago, resnmetl liis series of organ recitals in the Town Hall 011 Saturday night. The programmo was a most attractive one, and almost needless to s; ;v, Mr. Page gave the numbers interpretations with all the rare skill and mstcrship of the organ that he has shown in previous recitals. Perhaps the most interesting item was a couplet of choral improvisations by ICarg-Elert. These compositions are wonderful examples of what can bo done in tlm way of artistic development and genuine musical oxprcssion on a choral basis. Mendelssohn's great overture, _ "The Hebrides." was another most enjoyable item. This overture is tho outcome of a visit of the great composer to Scotland in 1829. The work is saiclio be one of the. finest orchestral pieces tho composer ever wrote, and "Wagner considered it as Mendelssohn's masterpiece. An item new to Wellington audiences was included in. the concert: it was a delightful fant.iisie by Saiiii-Saer.s. and the opening theme, a beautiful melody, is afterwards worked out to some considerable length. Other items included in\the programme were a fugue of Schumann's, a reverie by Silver, and "Summer Sketches" (Lemarc).
