Sir Edward Hopkinson Holden, chairman of tho London City and Midland Bank, Ltd., addressing a meeting of the bank, insisted that the gold reserve of England was insufficient to meet reasonable demands. Sir Edward Holden, in contending that the nation's gold reserves were inadequate, urged tho various banks to follow tho American-Canadian plan and publish their gold holdings, adding that unless they agreed tipoii the amount they hold, his bank's balancc-sheet next December would show its holding. He contended that of necessity, in case of emergency, one-third of the currency should bo based 011 gold.
