It v.-as reported that a strongly-worded letter of protest, signed by the Mayor and others, be sent to the Defence Department, and that Lieutenant-Colonel ..Hughes had proceeded to Wellington 'to ■ intcrvieiv General Godley on tho_'mattsr. General Godley has not yet received nnjcommunication on the matter. The facta of the ease, however, are that tho headquarters of the Seventh Regiment' arc nt ■ Palmorstoh North. In the past the adjutant of the regiment has lived in Wangamii, and it is understood that the rumour is caused by the fact that a new "adjutant lias recently hern -appointed, who has been ordered to live in Palinor.sten North, his proper headquarter.'.
