GENERAL FARMING NEWS.
Harvesting operations are well advanced; tho weather having been all that could be desired for the purpose. Somo of tho oat crops arc badly affected with rust and smut. Shearing with machines at Tauparau station, J. Sydnev, a Maori, registered a tally of 23S in one day. This tally stood as the best for the season in this district till it was eclipsed, by Arthur Wilson, who put through 281"sheep in one day at Wakarau station. AVilsoii endeavoured to shear 300 sheep hi oii'e dav, and was only prevented from establishing a record by a breakdown -which delayed him for twenty minutes. A settlor in the neighbourhood of-Mas-tcrton purchased five fat pigs' on lionday. He was driving them to his home, but when they had travelled a- distance of about half a mile, four'of them succumbed, apparently from the effects' of tho excessive heat. There, is at, present a strong demand in this-district for Southdown rams. This is said to be due to the development of the fat lamb trade. • Ifs easy-enough to make money when yon know how—and ifs. easy enough to make better cheese when you, have ".Victor" Vats in the factory, "if you're after boat cheese and more money investigate "Victor", Vat claims! The sloping bottorn, centre-"drainage, and sound construction, make the "Victor" the most efficient and reliable vat yet made. "Victor" particulars from Albert 0. I'avton, Plumber, Carterton'.—A'dvt.
