Professor Scott, lecturer in engineering to the Canterbury University, arrived back in New Zealand by the lonie yesterday from a trip to- England. The professor was anxious to make the southern-connection with the Waihine, in order to be present at the University Senate sitting in Dunedin this evening. He was enabled to make the connection, and was tho_ only passenger who did so. Had the lonic arrived in time some hundred passengers would have made the connection. Professor Scott has during liis stay at Home been making inquiries regarding the value of oi! fuel in place of coal.

Dr, A. A, Martin, of ' Palmerstou North, leaves on his visit to the Old Country in April, and will he absent from Palmorston about six months.
