All the principal Harbour Boards in the Dominion will bo represented. Three deleRates have been appointed by the Auckland Harbour Board—Messrs. J- H. Guiison (chairman), W. 15. Hutchison, and "\V. B. L'eyland—who leave for 'Nel.lington on Thursday morning. It will be remembered that, from time to time, the Prime Minister hits intimated that this matter must be considered and, during 'his recent visit to Auckland, Mr. Massey undertook to call the conference Jiow arranged. has been suggested that the various Harbour Boards should take over tho employment of watorside workers- aB permanent, instead of as casual, hands, and this will.he the.chief point for discussion.
Speaking yesterday as to tho possible outcome of tho conferencH Mr. Guiison said that tho question was beset by many difficulties. The conditions in Auckland and 'Wellington, for instance, were very dissimilar and, if anything of a character acceptable to all boards wero to be arrived .at, them would havo to bo considerable "give and take." The Auckland delegates were going down with a perfectly open mind (Mr. Guiison added) and, being thoroughly acquainted with local conditions, would bo alilo to adequately protect local interests.
