The Right Hon. W. F. M.rssey has been improved very much in health by his week of rest in Auckland, but lie is not yet'jquito his former selflt is probable that ho will have to follow his doctors instructions for somo while, lie is'to remain in Wellington, for several • weeks. Tlio Hon. W. H. Herries will lie in Wellington for about a week. Ho intends to be in To Aroha. on January 29, and after that his movements aro uncertain. Ho may go through tho Bay of Plenty district, the trip which ho had intended to mako after tho Christmas holidays, in company with the Primo Minister. The Hon. AV. Frascr will go to the Enngitikei district on Friday, and return to Wellington the following day. I'o will set out on his proposed trip to Kawhia noxt week.' The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher is going to Dannevirke to-day. He will return to Wellington on Monday. The Hon. A. L. Herdman will return from his holiday at Eruii on Friday or Saturday of this week. Tho Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), who is now in Duiiedin presiding at the annual Senate of the New Zealand University, is expected to return to Wellington on the morning of January 31. Mr! J. G. W. Aitken is reported to be. making good progress towards recovery from his recent illness. Mr. 1). G. A. Cooper, who was recentlv appointed from the position of Registrar of tho Wellington Supremo ■Court to be Stipendiary Magistrate in this City, commences his duties on tho Bench of the Court on February 2. 'Mr. A. H. Holmes, clerk of the Wellington Magistrate's Court, who lias , been appointed Registrar of the Supreme Court in Christchitreh, will leave Wellington for the south about the beginning of February. Mr. Holmes has been, stationed in Wellington for ten years, and it is very generally regretted • that he is leaving. Mr. E. V. Bevan, wlp for many years his . been chief clerk in Messrs. Levin ' 'and Co.'s passenger department, has taken up a position on the staft of the New- Zealand representative for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company (Mr. J. Fiiidlav). Prior to severing Ins eonne:tion will Messrs. Levin and Co., Mr. E; B. Nation, accountant, presented Mr. Bevan with a silver tea service and silver ientree dishes on behalt of the stall. •Mr W. J. Mr. H. E. M. Fildes. of the Chief Post Office staff, Wellington, who has come'into close contact with the_ mercantile community of the citv in his capacity as missing letter inquiry clerk, has been promoted to the position cf senior clerk at Dunsrliu. Mr. Fildes has been twenty years on the staff of th»? Wellington orSce, and in addition to his official duties has .-pecialisc-d in literature concerning the early days oi the city and district. Mr. Fildes's knowledge of the lore of early Wellington is probably unrivalled for a membei of th? present generation. He leaves for. Dunedin to-morrow. On Mondav eveninp last the clerical staff of the local office entertained him at a farewell supper.
Mr. H. Duncan, of the Timani Post Office, has bsi>n transferred to Wellington on promotion. Prior to his departure he was met by the members of the Etaff. and Mr. Domett, officer in charge, en their behalf, presented him with a gladstone bag and wished him ever; succr.M in his lien - position.
