BURGLAR MAKES A HAUL.
■ OVER £130 IN CASH. (By Tclejrraph—Prcs3 Association.) Pahiatua, January 19. A sensational burglary was perpetrated at the premises of Messrs. Clark and Manifold, drapers, Pahiatua, somo time between tho closing hour of 9 o'clock on Saturday evening and 8 a.m. to-day. On entering tho office, situated in tljo centre of ; tho shop, Bhortly after '8 o'clock this morning, Mr. 'I. W. Manifold, ono of tho principals of the firm, discovered that the safe, containing about £130 in cash and cheques, had been broken opou and tho contonts stolen. Tho burglary evidently was tlio work of a skilled cracksman. Ho removed the safe from its usual corner under the dosk in tho oflico to near the middle of tho floor, and in order to deaden the sound of the explosion, covered the floor with several mattresses, rugs, and linll curtains, which ho took from the oounters near by. Tho door of tho safe was blown clean open, tlie safe being practically ruined. A jemmy was found near tho safe. The jemmy had been used to prize open tho back door of the shop, by which entrance had been obtained. No arrests havo yet been reported.
