A few persons woro then supposed to have been drowned. The lingo wave travelled twenty miles beforo rejoining tho Potomac, below tlio town of Sehneir, increasing tlio height of tho river five feet. Tho authorities blew up several bridges to prevent tho wreckage from choking tlie current and flooding the surrounding country.
