A WELCOME HOME.
The members of the Excelsior Tent of the Rcch'abito Order met last night to welcome home Bro. W. J. Gaudin after his recent trip to England, where ho attended the'great R-echabite Conference held in August last.at Ayrshire. Thp district officers wero also the cuests of the Tent, there beinc; present P.D.'C.R. , Bro. J. T. Rasli,.D.S.J.B. Bro. Bell, of Petone; D.S.' Females Sister Lodge, and P.S. Finch, , Sister Fathers,' tJistricfc Trustee T. W. Ward... Bro. T. Fathers, D. Sec, occupied the chair. Thn chairman and Bro. Herons tli6 Chiof Ruler of tlio Tent, welcomed Bro, Gaudin, who in reply gave a graphic description of the' collision off-the coast of Spain during a. heavy fog between the Tainui aud'lnca, the leaving of tho smitten steamer, aud the reception on tho rescuing steamer,' and the narrow escape of tho rescuing steamer from a collision. Bro. Gatidin went on to speak of his visit to tho Rechabite Tent in Jorscy. with its 500 membership. Ho found there an eager interest in tho progress of Xew Zealand by the Jersey people. He also spoke of his' attendance at tho opening of a Rechabite and Good Templar orphanage-, at Bro. Gatidin spoke most interestingly of his attendance at the High Conference • at Ayrshire, Scotland. 'Musical and vocal items were contrihutcd during the evening br Bros. Hoare, Heron,. Rash, White, . Johnston, Ward, and Williams. During the evening a presentation was made to P.C.R. Bro. V. Johnston, on his retirement from the Chief Ruler's chair.
